Thinking About Workflow

In this article, we are going to explore the importance of some software and devices in organizing. What do you use? What are the tools that make you most effective in your daily work and life? As you know, I am a huge fan of finding the right devices and products to maximize your productivity and personal organization. Now, let us look at my ecosystem.

Microsoft Family (Click for Link)

This is the most underrated software package currently on the market. Google is still slightly ahead in the ease of collaboration. However, for only $99.99 per year, Microsoft you get access to the entire Microsoft ecosystem with a tremendous number of features, enhanced security, and less data mining for public use. Here are just few features that come with the package according to Microsoft:

  • For one to six people to share
  • Each person can use up to 5 devices simultaneously.
  • Works on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets
  • Up to 6 TB of secure cloud storage (1 TB per person)
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote with offline access and premium features
  • Microsoft Defender advanced security for your personal data and devices
  • Outlook ad-free secure email
  • Microsoft Editor advanced spelling, grammar, and writing assistance.
  • Clipchamp video editor with premium filters and effects
  • Expanded content library of high-quality photos, icons, fonts, videos, and audio.
  • Contact support via chat or email to get help when you need it.

There is a tremendous amount of value here and only increases with the more family members you have. A plus not mentioned is the complete integration with the Windows ecosystem, while still available across operating systems. Google One Premium is a similar product for $9.99 per month ($119.88 per year), but does come with 2TB of storage. It's important to note that I also use Google Workspace, provided by my employer. I have found that balancing these two competing systems can be challenging at times, but the Android and Windows ecosystem I live in helps.

Samsung S23 (Click for Link)

This is an amazing device. Believe me, I am not throwing any shade on those who use the Ultra or Fold versions. I was one of the first to adopt the Note, Ultra, and Fold. However, it is all about what you use it for. For me, this is quick access to email, messaging, audiobooks, videos (only for quick viewing and good audio), games (I have been known to play Super Auto Pets with the kids, not well) and calendaring is exceptional. What I have noticed is that taking notes and using this as a computer replacement is overrated.

Supernote (Click for Link)

I cannot talk enough about the Supernote for productivity. It is important to note that if you choose another notebook that is right for you, there is no wrong answer. However, for me, the Supernote (currently the A5X is my primary driver) is the best way to engage with the digital world, while still being able to mostly disconnect from other devices. What is important is that even though it is a “minimalist” device, you still have access to calendaring, cloud integration (OneDrive, Google, Supernote Cloud, and Dropbox), and email functionality.

Samsung Galaxy Book (Click for Link)

While I use the Galaxy Book2 360, the Galaxy Book 3 is the current series. I cannot overstate the importance of this device in my productivity. I teach courses for two universities, work full-time at a university, and create content on the web, and can easily accomplish this with my devices. It is important to point out that this is a Windows device and integrates with the other devices in my ecosystem. I can manage Microsoft easily, use Google for work, integrate my Supernote devices, and seamlessly use my phone.

Conclusions

There you have it; I use these platforms and devices daily to help me be as productive as possible. Please feel free to comment and let me know what your favorite devices and platforms are. The most important thing is that you find the right devices and ecosystems for you, whether Android, IOS, Windows, Mac, or the various e-ink devices out there. I plan to do more in-depth articles on each of these different tools with examples in the future, along with videos on my YouTube channel. Until next time, please feel free to subscribe to the blog and follow my YouTube channel.

One Week with the Supernote Manta

Note: This was originally published on my Patreon page as a members-only discussion and is now being shared in the new year. I also did a follow-up video that you can access below: Well, it’s Officially been one week since I received and opened the Supernote A5X2 Manta. You can see my unboxing video above. I have to admit that the device has been a joy to use so far. My content came over seamlessly from my A5X and the writing feel is almost identical. As a heavy user of the Supernote platform, I want to share my first thoughts after one week of use. We will start with the opportunities and move on to improvements. Opportunities Software Consistency - This is something that is easily fixed. I know that in the lead up to the Manta release, Ratta was releasing software updates direct, without first doing beta releases. While I understand the pressure to just "get it done," I think that came at a price. Here are just a few things that are currently not consistent:   Touch Input  ...

Supernote Manta is Here

Well, the wait is finally over, the Supernote Manta (A5X2) is finally here, as well as a surprise new LAMY collaboration. There has been much excitement, anticipation, frustration, and what some might call drama surrounding this device. However, it appears now that Ratta, the manufacturer of Supernote, has delivered on their promise to release what some see as a groundbreaking device in the e-note space. After all, this is only the second device to be modular in design (the other being the Supernote Nomad). While this is more of an announcement post, I plan to be releasing a fair bit of content on the device, putting it through its paces. For now, I am happy to share my unboxing and first impressions: I do want to make clear (also stated in the video) that the device was sent to me by Ratta for review. I have not been asked to provide any specific opinions or get authorization for any content prior to or after release. All my opinions, observations, and conclusions are completely un...

Ratta Supernote Customer Service Culture

Warning, this is a lengthy post, but this topic really struck a nerve. As someone who was in the customer service space for over 25 years (more depending on some definitions), I have had a difficult time watching the descent of the discussion on Reddit in the Supernote community. What used to be a place for serious discussion and support, both by community members and the company, has devolved into a constant barrage of hate, vitriol, and drama. Don't get me wrong, Ratta is not perfect as a company, and I have been a leading proponent of them not being as restrictive on comments about other competitors. While I recognize their right to do so, I just think it's a bad look from a public relations perspective. Additionally, the delays surrounding the A5X2 and the decision to reduce transparency has caused even more angst. Acknowledging all of that, there is something even more insidious at play here. First, we need to examine what started this firestorm. In October, Ratta rele...
